Value-added solutions in sewage treatment plants installation

Ashok Lall Architects

PROJECT DETAILS

At a large upcoming residential project in Chennai, an unusual buried Sewage Treatment Plant presented problems of stability in floatation due to a high ground water level, as well as foundations on bad expansive soil.
Using the principles of Valuemize, Agami’s structural design team ensured that the clients requirements were met, avoiding a costly piling solution. Our solution catered to the fundamental attribute of water-tightness, as well as high floatation tendencies of the tank.

CONCEPT DESIGN

The structural design exemplified Agami’s vast experience in designing water retaining structures for MNCs and foundation engineering. The structure was designed as a 3D shell, with actual 3D modelling done in SAP2000. Body-weight and an enlarged base ensures that the tank does not float.

CHALLENGES IN PRACTICAL IMPLEMENTATION AND EXECUTION

An existing building near the property posed a constraint to the excavation. Agami helped the site team in planning a safe excavation, pre-empted the possible problems that could arise and readied the solutions in case they did. This support was provided beyond the usual mandate of structural design in an effort to provide value-added holistic engineering services to a client.

HOW MAHINDRA LIFESPACES BENEFITTED WITH Valuemize

Agami, by virtue of their grasp on finer details of foundation engineering, proposed basic soil improvement at the base of the STP and thus avoided pile foundations. Use of pile foundations would have escalated the project cost of the structure manifold by at least two to three times.

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL

“Client was extremely satisfied with the engineering finesse and overall pro-active solutioning shown by AGAMI beyond their mandate. ”
